Jamboree & Michelson Pedestrian Bridge

White bridge spanning a street

The Jamboree & Michelson Pedestrian Bridge project within the City of Irvine will enhance pedestrian safety, relieve traffic congestion, and serve as a gateway monument for anyone entering the Irvine Business Complex.

The 175-foot-long bridge, which will span Jamboree Road, will feature the following:

  • Structural Stainless Steel
  • Elevators
  • Glass Curtain Walls
  • Glass Safety Railing
  • Lock Up Devices
  • Corian Cladding (Complex Façade)
  • Geometrically Complex Cladding Frame Nodes (3D Printed, Cast, or Welded)
  • Timber (Black Locust) Deck Panels
  • Color Changing Lighting

As part of the City’s efforts to enhance sustainable mobility, the bridge will include stairs with a bike runnel to make it easy for cyclists to safely navigate the intersection. In addition, the bridge will have energy-efficient, cable-supported elevators.

Construction Updates

Construction began Monday, June 23. This summer, the contractor continues to complete work associated with the eventual relocation of key utilities to make way for structural elements of the bridge. Next, excavation will begin on the elevator towers.

The following lane closures are in place beginning Monday, July 28, as part of the Jamboree & Michelson Pedestrian Bridge project:

  • Southbound Jamboree Road to westbound Michelson Drive dedicated right-turn lane
  • Westbound Michelson Drive to northbound Jamboree Road dedicated right-turn lane

These closures will be in place until the project’s completion in July 2027.

Right turns can still be made from the far right lanes on southbound Jamboree Road and westbound Michelson Drive.

Access to area residences and businesses will be maintained while construction is underway.
