The City of Irvine’s Fleet Services Division is vital to supporting public safety, daily operations, and community services by maintaining a fleet that is safe, dependable, and environmentally sustainable. The division offers a full range of services: including preventive maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, fueling, and fabrication of City-owned vehicles and heavy equipment.
In addition to overseeing a fleet of more than 600 vehicles and equipment assets, Fleet Services staff regularly perform custom modifications to meet the unique requirements of various departments and maintain an array of small and specialized equipment.

- Preventive Maintenance & Repairs: Maintains City vehicles and equipment in optimal condition to ensure safe, dependable, and efficient operation across departments.
- Custom Fabrication: Modifies and equips vehicles to meet the unique operational requirements of City departments, including Public Safety, Public Works, and Community Services.
- Fueling Operations: Oversees the City’s fuel depots, ensuring a consistent and reliable supply of gasoline, diesel, and compressed natural gas (CNG) for the City’s growing fleet.
- Alternative Fuel Support: Operates a public-private CNG fueling partnership with Clean Energy, offering service at the Operational Support Facility, 6427 Oak Canyon.
- Public Fueling Access: Provides CNG fueling access to the public, with payment accepted via major credit cards or Clean Energy fuel cards at the designated facility.
EV Fleet Transition Plan
The City of Irvine is committed to mitigating greenhouse gas emissions and advancing its transition to a low-emission fleet. Presently, the City operates 65+ alternative fuel vehicles and is actively accelerating the integration of electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid technologies.
Strategic pillars of the City’s EV Transition Plan encompass:
- Fleet Electrification: Systematically retire legacy gasoline and compressed natural gas vehicles in favor of battery-electric and hybrid alternatives, with an emphasis on light-duty units, consistent with California Air Resources Board mandates.
