Pickleball
Come check out pickleball, the fastest-growing sport in the United States. A combination of tennis, badminton, and paddleball, it is played on a smaller version of a tennis court, with graphite paddles and a whiffle ball. It is easy to learn; fun for youth, adult, and senior players; a good workout; and very social as well as competitive. Players will meet and compete against other players of similar skills levels.
The City of Irvine has six lit pickleball courts located at Portola Springs Community Park, four lit pickleball courts located at Heritage Park and two lit pickleball courts located at Los Olivos Community Park. In addition, there are eight hybrid tennis and pickleball courts located at Heritage, Knollcrest, Los Olivos, San Carlo, Turtle Rock and University Community Park.
The City of Irvine anticipates the opening of eight pickleball courts at Mike Ward Community Park in the spring of 2026. In addition, the City is evaluating building pickleball courts at the Great Park.

Irvine Team Pickleball (ITP) is a socially competitive and recreational pickleball league. Eight teams face off in a 7-week Round Robin and a 3-week single-elimination playoffs. Match format is 2 men’s doubles, 2 women’s doubles, and 2 mixed doubles games to 11, win-by-1. The team with the most total points over the 6 games is the winner. If both teams are tied in total points, a final mixed doubles tiebreaker showdown game to 7, win-by-1 will determine the winner. USAPA rules and traditional side-out scoring apply.
Every team makes the playoffs. League match records will determine seed order. Quarter finals are played first, then the 4 winners advance to the medal rounds. Winners of the medal rounds will claim the title of ITP League Champions.
ITP is a self-rated level 3.5 league, defined by the USAPA as intermediate skill level. Maximum of 8 people per team, minimum of 2 men and 2 women. Cost is $490 per team per season.
