On November 26, 2024, the Irvine City Council voted to approve an ordinance to establish objective design standards that apply to residential and residential mixed-use projects citywide. This ordinance introduces a new chapter within the Irvine Zoning Ordinance that outlines the purpose, applicability, and key provisions of the Objective Design Standards and incorporates an Objective Design Standards Manual by reference.

The Legislative Platform provides a streamlined process through which the City Council, City Manager, City staff, and the City’s legislative advocates can act in a timely manner in response to legislative proposals. This policy platform serves as an opportunity to identify specific priority areas of interest for the City, which benefit the Irvine community.

Irvine Public Library System Transition

At its July 23, 2024, meeting, the Irvine City Council approved the transition of library services from the County of Orange to the City of Irvine. The City Council also directed City staff to reopen negotiations with the County to expedite the lease expiration of University Park Library and begin the design process and funding option exploration for a new library building in Irvine.

The agreement was presented at the County Board of Supervisors August 13 and was unanimously approved.
