Affordable Home Ownership

Affordable Housing Resources

The Office of Health & Wellness has compiled the following list of resources for those interested in purchasing a home:

Affordable Housing Clearinghouse
The Affordable Housing Clearinghouse is a network of lenders, community groups, and public agencies dedicated to the creation of quality affordable housing. We fulfill this vision by:

  • Financing housing for low-income, very-low-income, and special-needs populations
  • Providing education on housing opportunities, issues, and needs
  • Providing a forum for communication, partnerships, and innovative solutions addressing community needs

California Housing Finance Agency (CalHFA)
CalHFA understands that buying a home is a huge responsibility; it is also a huge opportunity. Owning your home means you can paint the walls with your favorite color, plant flowers and vegetables if you choose and plant the seed for an investment in your future. Of course, before you leap into all the benefits of homeownership, you should get prepared first. To help you get ready and get the most out of CalHFA’s loan programs and assistance by following their guided steps.

United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Homestore

Visit the HUD Homestore to search for available HUD homes. A HUD home is a residential property that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) owns, typically after a foreclosure on an FHA-insured mortgage. When a homeowner defaults on their FHA loan, the lender forecloses on the property, and HUD compensates the lender for the loss, subsequently acquiring the home. HUD then sells these homes, often at reduced prices, to recover some of the money lost on the foreclosed loan.

Irvine Community Land Trust
The Irvine Community Land Trust provides secure, high-quality affordable housing as a non-profit organization that acquires and retains land with the purpose of developing permanently affordable rental, ownership and special needs housing for the benefit of income-eligible families. ICLT is in Irvine, California, one of California’s most expensive real estate markets, where there is a tremendous need for affordable housing. This is our home, too, and ICLT is committed to ensuring that Irvine is a place where families of all backgrounds and income levels can call “home.”
