The City of Irvine is transitioning Library services from the County of Orange to a new Irvine Public Library system, allowing for a more personalized, local approach to library services. With this transition, the City is committed to creating dynamic library spaces that foster civic engagement and community growth along with equitable access to education resources.

The Heritage Park and University Park Libraries will open as the first Irvine Public Library branches Monday, August 4. The Katie Wheeler Library will be transitioned from a County facility to an Irvine Public Library in early 2026.

Irvine Public Library Grand Opening

Sunday, August 3
Heritage Park Library: 1-4 p.m.
University Park Library: 2-5 p.m.

Celebrate a new chapter for Irvine’s libraries! Enjoy ribbon-cutting ceremonies at each location, along with live entertainment, family-friendly crafts and activities, and the chance to sign up for a library card and check out materials.
